About Remove Background Color
Remove Background Color turns a simple solid or near-solid background into transparency without uploading the image to a server. Choose the background color, adjust tolerance for JPEG color variation, and optionally remove only matching pixels connected to the outer edge.
How to use Remove Background Color
- 1
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image with a mostly solid-color background.
- 2
Use white, black, the color picker, or click the image preview to sample the background color.
- 3
Adjust the tolerance until JPEG compression or small color variations are included without removing too much of the subject.
- 4
Keep Edge-connected only enabled when you want to protect similar colors inside the subject.
- 5
Click Remove Background and review the result over the transparency checkerboard.
- 6
Download the finished image as a transparent PNG.
Tips for better results
- JPEG backgrounds are rarely pure white pixel-for-pixel, so increase tolerance gradually instead of matching only #FFFFFF.
- Edge-connected only is useful for products or logos that also contain the same color as the background.
- This is a color-based tool, not an AI subject detector. Complex photographic backgrounds need a different background-removal method.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a JPG background transparent?
Yes. JPG itself cannot store transparency, but this tool removes the selected background color and exports the result as a transparent PNG.
Why do I need tolerance for a white JPG background?
JPEG compression creates slightly different near-white pixels around edges and flat areas. Tolerance includes those similar colors.
What does Edge-connected only do?
It removes matching pixels only when they are connected to the image border, helping preserve similar colors that are enclosed inside the subject.
Which file formats can I use?
Check the file picker and tool description for the supported formats. Available formats can vary by tool.
